27 April 2010 /// In case you don’t remember the 1 million4disability campaign, 1 364 984 citizens are still waiting for an answer from the EU institutions. The European Parliament called yesterday for concrete and adequate actions from the European Commission.

- European Commission Non Discrimination legislation proposal fails to protect disabled people

EDF President considered the proposed directive unclear, leaving room for interpretation. He stressed that the proposal will require substantial changes in order to reach its objectives and to protect disabled people from discrimination and to respond to the demands of the over 1.3 million European citizens who supported EDF One Million for Disability Campaign with their signatures.

Following the decision of the College of Commissioners on 11 June 2008 on the future European non discrimination legislation, EDF expresses serious concerns that the decision to protect all discriminated groups through a single directive may not respond to the needs of a group as diverse as persons with disabilities.

European Commission announced that a proposal for a European directive fighting discrimination against disabled people will be proposed to the College of Commissioners at the of June as part of a comprehensive "Social package".
